Fifteen days after launching Kik Messenger had 1 million users. So what is Kik? Kik is basically a cross-platform BlackBerry Messenger (BBM). BlackBerry, Android, and iPhone users can all use Kik.

Kik has been so successful because its a good program. Messages appear in real-time. Notifications will inform users if a message has or has not been read. Also while not yet implemented, the Kik team has developed technology to allow users to stream through their program. Users could share pictures, videos, and music on the go.

In such a short time they have already reached the top of the major App stores. The future looks strong for Kik. But the question remains that if they grew to prominence so quickly, could they be replaced just as quickly? Let's wait and see

Let's be real, texting while driving is dangerous. We've all done it, we're all guilty and we're all ready to change our actions and stop this dangerous practice.

Texting is a visual, manual and cognitive distraction while you take your eyes off the road, hand off the wheel and mind off driving. It takes the driver's attention away from driving for longer periods than other distractions.

Last year Car and Driver magazine conducted a study comparing reaction times of various drivers. The subjects were required to stop while reading and writing texts, as well as stopping while intoxicated (at a .08 blood-alcohol level) and the results were compared to their times while not distracted and sober. The results showed that texting is as dangerous as driving drunk.

In 2008 there were a quarter of a million persons injured and 6,000 killed by irresponsible drivers misusing cellphones.

At least 19 states and the District of Columbia have passed bans on texting while driving in recent years.

In March a Florida House committee in Tallahassee unanimously pushed forward a bill that stopped short of making texting while driving a primary offense. Florida's proposed law would make texting while driving a secondary offense. The measure also prohibits motorists from reading data on wireless devices while driving.

First-time violators could face fines of $30 plus court costs. A second offense within five years would be a moving violation, costing the texting driver $60 plus court costs.

On April 8, Apple unveiled plans for the biggest and most exciting iPhone software update yet. iPhone OS 4 will include over 100 new user features for iPhone and iPod touch owners to enjoy. And for developers, a new software development kit (SDK) offers over 1500 new APIs to create apps that are even more powerful, innovative, and amazing.

iPhone OS 4 will ship this summer for iPhone and iPod touch, and for iPad in the fall. A developer beta is available now.

With iPhone OS 4, iPhone owners will enjoy over 100 new features that make it easier to interact with apps, manage email, read books, and more. New features include the following:

Multitasking

Developers will have access to seven multitasking services, which will allow tasks to be performed in the background while preserving performance and battery life. So you’ll be able to make a Voice over IP call while playing a game or checking email, find a restaurant on Urbanspoon while listening to Pandora, and more.

Folders

Organize apps into folders with drag-and-drop simplicity. Get faster access to your favorites and browse and manage up to 2160 apps at once — many more than the current limit of 180 apps.

Even Better Mail

See messages from all your email accounts displayed together in a unified inbox, switch between inboxes more quickly, organize messages by threads, and even open attachments in third-party apps.

iBooks

The best way to browse, buy, and read books on a mobile device. Easily flip through the pages of a book you've downloaded from the iBookstore while listening to your music collection. Browse tens of thousands of books — many of them free — by title, author, or genre. You can even check out reviews and read sample pages before you buy.

iPhone OS 4 Compatibility

iPhone OS 4 will work with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the second- and third-generation iPod touch this summer, and with iPad in the fall. Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking is available only with iPhone 3GS and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).
